When is Social Media Day 2019 and How Can You Celebrate?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Can you believe that Social Media Day is celebrating its 10th year anniversary this year?

On June 30, 2010, Mashable launched Social Media Day as a way to recognize and celebrate social media’s impact on global communication. Today, social media is the heart of global communication; and since its inception, Mashable’s been using social media to connect between cultures, movements and super-fandom.

If you work in social media management, this is your day! Celebrate YOU!

Take this day – or month – to celebrate social media as it has provided many of us with an income, a profession, a business and a way to communicate with those around the globe.

Social Media Day 2019

This year, like every year since 2010, Social Media Day falls on June 30.

However, celebrations dates vary, especially since this year June 30 is a Sunday. Many ‘social media weeks’ have spun out from this day around the June 30 date as well.

To find celebrations near you, you can use the #SMDAY hashtag to connect with Social Media Day event organizers.

For easy reference, we’ve complied a list to get you started! If you are a Social Media Day or Social Media Week event organizer and your June date is not listed, feel free to comment with the link and we will add your event here!

Social Media Day. The Humble Beginnings

Our very own Kate Buck Jr. was part of the first year Social Media Day launch by Mashable in Austin Texas, with a TechKarake party which her company, Pinqued, produced

Next, Kate spoke in 2013 and 2018 in Dallas at their Social Media Day Conference.

Many cities, universities, as well as agencies, have hosted Social Media Days in the past 10 years. Here is a write up of how one such event was born out of two others; Rocks Digital Got Its Start from the Local Social and DFW Rocks Social Media Day.

Social Media Day 2018; Livestreaming

Last year on June 30, 2018, Social Media Pro hosted a one-day livestream marathon. On Saturday, June 30, 2018, our team members talked with Social Media Managers and Influencers on location, many of whom were attending #SMDay conferences around the country.

We interviewed friends in Dallas, Texas, Jacksonville, Florida, Denver, Colorado, and San Diego, California!

The idea and concept for this Social Media Day livestreaming event came from the need to offer a virtual option for the many Digital Nomads and for those social media managers who live in remote areas without immediate access to an in-person Social Media Day event.

This year for Social Media Day 2019, we are kicking this concept up another notch!
